The Greatest "Election Party Invite" ever!!!!

Well, we folks in British Columbia vote tomorrow.  My friend Stacy sent me an invite to an election party to be held at her house tomorrow night.  I had to share, since it is (INMO) the funniest election party invite ever.  I should note that her email to me was titled, "ELECTION PONG ROBO INVITE" (which is particularly funny, since i am in one of the ridings that got the robo calls in the last election!)

Her invite was as follows:

-------------------------
Hello,

Just a reminder that election pong begins as the polls close tomorrow night, and that you are invited to attend should you wish to do so.

Polls close at 8pm and we are starting Election Pong at the same time.

We do not care that it is a school night and will stay up to the bitter end. You may leave when you wish if you care about such things as school nights.

We will offer you snacks, a drink, ping pong and election viewing. You might get more drinks and an extra cookie if certain people don't attend.

We cannot promise you will compete in election pong on behalf of the party of your choice.

We *can* promise that you will not be ridiculed for your errant voting choices, even if they are very, very, wrong.

If you are the gambling type, you may participate in the great Chappel Family election pool (see self explanatory attached spreadsheet). Please submit your bets to me via email before noon as per family regulations.

Late bets are considered spoiled. You may not vote twice.

As with democracy, there are no prizes for the winners of Election Pong.

The victory is in participation. After that, there is only a sense of vague disappointment, which grows to dissatisfaction, then futility or rage (depending on your disposition), and inevitably leads to the next tournament.

You are, of course, not compelled to attend. However, if you are not attending, we request that you pretend you will attend, and then quietly not show up, rather like an anarchist with a friend running for the Work Less Party. We will not speak of this matter again.

Stacy.

"[Election Pong] is the process by which people choose the [person] who'll get the blame"

  1. Next federal election I am throwing a Pong Election party! Was it hysterically fun or did you act like an anarchist and not show up? So great!

  2. hahaha. You don't know how funny this comment is. we were all in despair over the liberals win (in the face of a predicted NDP majority). My friend Freya's grade 1 child said that he is not going to follow any liberal rules, and will just be an anarchist until the NDP gets in
