Zoe's Special Olympics in Devon Alberta

We dropped Zoe off in Calgary at the Deerfoot Mall. She was on her way with the Special Olympics team heading to Devon, Alberta for a three day celebration of athletes. Greg and I came back from Shuswap on Wednesday so that we could attend the games with her. We made it back to Calgary just before the flood the washed the No. 1 Highway away.  The rain was pouring down in Calgary when we dropped Zoe off. But just as we got to our hotel in Devon, the sun came out. The athletes must stay with the team and have very little, if any free time to spend with family. Here is Zoe on the field just waiting for the games to begin.
Zoe is so happy to be here.

Just look, not a dark cloud in the sky.
Here the Calgary team is lining up to get ready to enter the arena for the opening ceremony. If you look hard enough you can see Zoe's arm up waving to me.
There were dignitaries there and representatives from all of the armed forces in Canada. The flaming torch on the stage has just been lit. It brought tears to my eyes just thinking of Doral having attended the Olympic games in 1928 in Amsterdam.
Zoe is looking for me. I am there but there is a big glass hockey wall between us so she cannot here me pounding on the glass to get her attention.
Zoe and I made contact here while I took this picture.

Tommorrow we will be at the arena at 9:00 a.m. to watch Zoe participate in four of the rhythmic gymnastics events. Let the games begin!

  2. So exciting Zoe! Congratulations! You made it to the Olympics. I hope your events go well and you perform the best you can. The picture at the bottom with your arms in the air is the best. Have a great time!
