Today in San Antonio we went to the Zoo. On the way we stopped to eat and came upon the Burger Boy with a Bates special and an Orange Freeze. It was as good a find as Peter's. The owner came outside to talk to us when he found out we were Bates. His uncle founded the joint in 1968 selling the 'whopper'. His uncle sold the name 'whopper' as it now exists at Burger King and kept this busy joint.
The flamingoes were the first stop at the zoo.
And here we are at the end climbing on a family of cats.
Never let a hippo scare you.
As we were walking through the bird cage a zoo lady asked us if we would like to take a seat as she was starting to feed the birds live bugs. Ivan had to keep his open toed shoes off the ground.
A great and tiring day at the zoo!

The solstice occurs on the 21st and the 22nd -- together making the longest night for us, and the longest day for those around the south pole. For you, it is warm temperatures and a trip to the zoo with your grandchildren. Can't beat that. The only large groups of flamingos I ever see in Canada are the plastic ones on lawns with a celebratory message to someone inside the house.
ReplyDeleteWish I could have joined your for the Bates Burger. I will pass on the Orange Freeze until our weather warms up.
I hope you don't leave San Antonio soon. I am having virtual holiday fun with you.
Even thought I read about the Bates special in your text, seeing it on the sign made me laugh so hard. How perfect. It is as if they put it up just for you guys.
ReplyDeleteDo you have any family members who would eat shrimp until their skin turned the colour of shrimp like the flamingos? David Doral ate so many sweet potatoes as a baby that his skin turned orange.
