Saturday at 10:55 a.m. is another of Mozart's operas, brought to us via satellite.
Please look for times in your own community.
As Rebecca reminds me, it is not always the same in Victoria as it is here, in Calgary. Running time is 4 hours and 5 minutes.
Music Director James Levine makes his
long-awaited return to the Met podium to conduct Mozart’s beloved opera
about testing the ties of love. The cast is filled with youthful Met
stars: Susanna Phillips and Isabel Leonard are the sisters Fiordiligi
and Dorabella, Matthew Polenzani and Rodion Pogossov are their lovers,
with Danielle de Niese as the scheming Despina.
I could only find links to reviews of last year's performances. Here is one of the reviews entitled "Levine is Impressive in Return to Met" and here is utube clip of the Act 1 finale from a 2013 dress rehearsal of this opera plus one of Levine conducting the overture.

Moiya and I made it to the Salmar Classic Theatre in Salmon Arm to see Cosi Fan Tutte. She counted the people in the audience just as the intermission was ending -- 31 she said, plus the stragglers in the hall.
ReplyDeleteA goofy plot. I had many laughs along the way...e.g. the men hugging the women around the knees. The men pretending to take the poison and then feigning death. Moiya and I especially enjoyed the design of the dresses on the two sisters.
Mozart's music was sublime, especially the sextets.
Moiya was anxious to go to this opera. She went last week -- always better to be one week early for the performance, than one week behind, she thinks.
