Talking about death
Yesterday I went down to the Kerby Centre to hear a lecture called “Talking about Death Wont’ Kill You” which was sponsored by the Calgary Memorial Society.
I had signed up for the class several months ago, so long ago that when I walked in I wondered, why am I here – I don’t even remember why I signed up for this.
The Kerby Centre was busy. They are a voting station and so people were directed in two streams – one to the polling stations and the other to the spacious auditorium where Dr. Kathy Kortes-Miller gave a 1 ½ hour lecture on the essential guide to end-of-life conversations.
I looked around.
I couldn’t find anyone I knew. I sat close to the front. As I left the building, I noticed that I could have taken the 69th Street LRT one stop and then picked up my link, but I decided walking is better for me. I was marginally aware that I was wearing a holter, preparing for my next visit with the doctor. Nothing like wearing that as a reminder that it is better to just get out of the house and keep going.
