Alice’s Sixth Birthday Party

... another magnificent cake creation from Miranda ...
Alice has been fondly looking forward to her sixth birthday party.

“I will be 6 on the 6th she proudly told me.

There has been a magnificent cake in the making in the last 24 hours: sparkles, sparklers and four layers of cake, two of them turquoise.

A cake to defy imagination.

Nine of us ate significantly large pieces and there is still ½ a cake left over.

The highlight was that the girls had sparkly unicorn headbands to wear all day, another creation from Miranda.
... The sparklers are part of the joy of the cake ...

Bonnie Wyora arrived with gifts as well..

Alice wanted to have everyone watch the opening but Aunt Bonnie Wyora told her that there would have to be a private showing from the back of her car.

I was in on the preview.

On the way out to the lake, Bonnie had dropped by a garage sale and out of the car came everything from the sale, for Alice's private viewing.

Alice was told she could pick six of the  articles, since she was six.

The choices came out of the trunk: a skill saw, a tent, a car vacuum, a dog stuffy, a barely used utility bag, a new tent (all of it parts included), a beach umbrella (barely used), a large woman’s winter coat (hand warmers and leather gloves still in the pockets), a rhinestone bracelet, a pendant of an eagle with matching earrings of eagle wings, a new notebook, a well used t-shirt with a Japanese cartoon logo, a wizard costume, etc.

Alice had no trouble making the choices of six beloved items that would become her own, though when it came to the sixth one, it was a toss up between the beach umbrella (stand not included) and the car vacuum (complete with its automatic battery recharger).

The car vacuum won out.

Michael looked at the gifts later, both the ones that had been chosen and the ones that were left to be distributed to those who want them.
... I have been trying to get a picture of Alice's first lost tooth.
She has resisted until the moment.

“Who buys a skill saw for a 6 year old,” he asked Aunt Bonnie.

“Well, I do,” she replied. “I didn’t say that the six year old could use it without supervision.”

Hoorah for a good party!
An unusual glitch occurred with the lighting of the sparklers on the cake.

By the time one was lit, the one before it had sizzled its way to the bottom.

Miranda could just barely keep ahead of the sparkler behind as it was fizzling out.
Betty modelling her unicorn head dress and
showing purses that come filled with money.

Now that was unexpected.

Still a joy to see the candles sparkling one at a time.

Life is strange.  Sometimes there just is only one sparkler at a time.
