Mary, is that your kitchen? I need to come visit it so I can recognize it in photos. Will you help me learn again how to make bread? I know how it should feel, look, and smell at the various stages. The feel of the tepid water for the yeast, and the smell of the yeast as it bubbles in the 4 cup glass measuring cup. The size of the metal bowl with a towel over it as the bread rises. The flesh-like feel of the dough as you kneed it. The oil on your hands as you run your hand around the bowl to decrease it sticking to the bowl in its second rise But I never could quite get over the fear of how inexact the measurements were that Arta would tell me time and time again for the ingredients. So much of, about that much, this much of that if you only have that much of this, and so forth. It is a vacation day for me. Perhaps I will give it a go, and aim for two loaves only.
yum!!!
ReplyDeleteYour post was a joy to read—thank you for making it both informative and engaging.

ReplyDeleteYou've described it all Bonnie. I'd make bread with you any day. We can even do it via a video chat, but I'd looooove to have you here in my house.
