Cooks in the Kitchen

... a Mac and Cheese first-timer ..
Basically, now I can make something without help.

It was completely pretty easy. The only help I needed was testing the noodles before I put the cheese on. No matter what ... it was a success.

Here's a tip. When you first try to make it, ask an adult for help. It seems like it will be complicated. Once you've made it, you'll know it is easy and you can do it by yourself.

I have to say, please do make Mac and cheese. It's really good whether you use my tip or not.

  1. I have some questions. What kind of Mac and Cheese did you use? I was shopping today and noticed that there is a whole wheat Mac and Cheese option at Costco. Have you tried that yet?

Pouria uses the whole wheat spaghetti as the noodle in his stir fry. I told him I am not used to eating it yet. He said that if I will give it a try, I will come to prefer it.

As well, I have another question. do you prefer the white cheese Mac and Cheese or the yellow cheese version?

  3. Too bad about not having developed a taste for ketchup yet, David. Did you know it is one of the basic food groups? Even for adults?

As for mac and cheese. I went to the internet to look it up. Yes, it appears in wiki. On the food lists one of the authors presents over 170 variations on the mac and cheese basic recipe, the Kraft Macaroni and Cheese version that he made. So, you have done 1 and you have 169 versions to go, unless you are staying with the basic method.

  4. I don't like ketchup on my mac and cheese either. This year I decided to try it with Frank's Hot Sauce. I really like that. I don't think I would have liked it when I was your age though.

When I make home-made mac and cheese (ie: not from a Kraft box) I like to top it with kind of crumb crust made from crushed saltine crackers, butter and some extra cheese. You crumble that all togther, sprinkle it on top of your mac and cheese (which must be in a casserole dish) then put it in the over to turn into a yummy crust. My kids don't like that though.

  6. Mary was speaking of good toppings on mac and cheese, a good topic since Pouria says we are a nation of mac and cheese eaters. David, you might want to know there are many version of Frank's Hot Sauce to put on the mac anc cheese: regular, thick, xtra hot, buffalo wings. Check the versons out on the shelves of Askews and you will see many more. If there is one bottle at your house already, put just one drop on your mac and cheese. You won't even notice it. The next day, try 2 drops. The next day, try 3 drops. And so forth and so on. Soon you will prefer your mac ancd cheese with Franks.

Yet, I prefer mine with Sriracha sauce which is also known as rooster sauce or cock sauce. Check my favorite hot sauce out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sriracha_sauce and then you will know the mystery ingredients in hot sauce.

But first? Try a bit of ketchup.

  7. I was listening to Greg's radio station when I was driving the car to a DR.'s appointment at 7:30 a.m. The expert chilli cook said that Chilli on top of Mac and Cheese was an expert dish. That will take longer to cook both dishes.

  8. Just to help you out, David, if you want chili con corne on top of your Mac and Cheese? Have Aunt Moiya buy you a case of chili when she is at Costco next time: about $9 for six cans. Then you can just pop the lid off of the top. You don't even have to use a can-opener. Expert cooks find quick ways to do things.

Still, I am staying with my suggestion. Try ketchup before you graduate to the more exotic versions of Mac and Cheese.

  10. Duncan again.... if anyone hasn't understood this yet, we are not talking mac and cheese, we are talking KRAFT DINNER, which it the best of all IMHO. Also, if you talk a lot of different kinds of powdered cheese, and mix them together, it is heavenly!
