Years ago my neighbour introduced me to asking folks if you could pick the fruit in the yard (particularly apples -- no one household can pick and process and entire tree). Usually folks are so happy to have you cart some away.
So last night, I gave into my apple crisp craving and grabbeda perfect bag and walked up the street to collect some fallen apples.
There were only about 8 that were usable (after cutting off some bruised parts from their journey from tree to ground) but that was just enough for a small pan of apple crisp.
Stopped at another neighbour's yard -- she has let me know her plums were ready for picking (and sharing).
I decided the plums shold be made into a filling for a new take on date squares.
And the finished results!! It's been less than 24 hours adn there's not much left between evening snack, sharing with friends, breakfast, and lunch. You can never have too much fruit crisp in a day.
P.S. Thank you Rebecca for the wonderful bag. I use it all the time. Groceries, picnic-ing, and now foraging.
ReplyDeleteI want thirds.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! (and a birthday gift of sorts to me). I loved seeing the bag there.... totally reminds me of Arta. How awesome to see it (and you) doing perfect work in a world of wonder! xo
