I am not saying that eating at Melanies (between
watching Jersey Boys and going to see
Singing in the Rain) was the
highlight of the day, but it was the thing that came to my mind at night. That is the time of the day when I try to
think of just one thing that I would want to remember from the day.
That moment was when Greg picked up the bill and said,
£80 pounds. His voice was flat – he was
just delivering a message. My quick math
made me think, how could the meal have cost that much. We didn’t even open a bottle of wine. Three times eleven – £33 to me.
Singing in
the Rain and Jersey
Boys. We went to see both of these –
again! What does that say about us. That we forget what we have seen, so keep
going back? Or that these are just the
best shows in town? Or maybe that they
are the shows where we know how to get the matinee tickets for a greatly reduced
price?. I did make it into the National
Gallery to see a sign, ‘Medicine and Health in National Gallery Paintings’. Hard not to be intrigued at a themed tour
about Medicine in Art, especially in this gallery where the painting are mainly
14th to 19th century works. I find that every tour can work in William
Hogarth's 'Marriage รก la Mode' series which exposes the debauched lifestyles of
the upper classes, their marital infidelities, sexual diseases, and artistic
pretensions. In this case, of course,
show the ravages of syphilis. Quite the
tour!

so... the question is, how DID the bill come to 80 pounds at Melanies? I love it that i can imagine you guys sitting there! Did you have the soup? the salmon? the sardines? :-)
ReplyDeleteThe bill as presented at Melanies was wrong. Really wrong. We only owed half that. Of course it was the "fault" of the new cashier. Mmmm.
ReplyDeleteAs for the bill on the boat. None of us can get over ordering all of this food, and not having a cheque come to us at the end of the meal. Tonight, Wyona ordered 2 pieces of New York Cheesecake as well, covered with callebaut chocolate, so that she could take them to the fridge in her room, in case she and Greg needed a mid-night snack. Or would that be 2 am snack, for they dance every night until the last band on the ship closes down.
