Romans des Bois...

Romans des Bois Exhibition Poster
Catherine was our driver once we took an hour trip away from the Botanical gardens and down a long winding path whose only purpose for us was a place where we could get exercise.

She made us take 3 side trips that were events in themselves.

We swung through Romans des Bois, an exhibit that is present at the the Tree House.

The room was dark.

Wood sculptures were housed in plexi-glass cabinets.

... Catie still working on the maple syrup candy ...
We knew we were on a whistle stop.

Tom stopped to read one of the quotes that went along with a sculpture.

He read it out loud and then giggled over the word virginity.

The quote was from Germaine Greer: A library is a place where you can lose your innocence without losing your virginity.
“Do you know what the means in this context,” said his mother.

He said, I am fine, mother, I am fine.

“But I need to know if you understand it in this context.”

Lucky Tom to have his mother so quick with an explanation for him.
... some books are to be tasted ...

Some books are to be tasted.

Others are to be swallowed.

And some few to be chewed and digested.

--Francis Bacon

Wood is such a fantastic product -- in sculptures, as salad forks, on floors, in bowls, as bannisters.

I love wood.
