January 1, 2014 Clone in Defensive Stance by David Camps-Johnson |
He selected the image and completed drawing it free-hand at the Bjorgan house during the art party.
Marla and I had gone shopping in Kelowna a month before. We had looked for projects that involved putting pencil to paper and included David's interests. These became known as the "mystery gifts" (so we could build up some excitement around them).
One of the "mystery gifts" was a book called Draw Star Wars: The Clone Wars by the editors of Klutz and Bonnie Burton.
As you can see from the image to the right, it included a pencil crayon that looks like a double-sided light saber. It is is red at one end and blue at the other.
The back of the book shows an example of the 4-step process. |
What he really liked is that you do early steps in pencil, then use a felt-pen to go over the finished project, and then erase all the early pencil draft marks.
What I really like is that he had fun and was motivated to keep a pencil or felt in his hand for an extended period of time.
The book provided him with a four step process for drawing clones. It's amazing how breaking a task into smaller parts can keep a person motivated to keep going. David's persistence was bewildering and inspiring.
Ooo, that's so good. I wish my boys were still into Star Wars. It was a phase for them, unfortunately.
