At 6 pm the Lego magically leaves the table and dinner is set for 7: Mary, Miranda, Richard, Michael, Alice, Betty and me.
When my children were this young, part of setting the table was putting a cloth just beside where I was going to sit, one that I could use to wipe up spills of water.
We don’t need that part of the table setting with this group. No water spills. Mary does bring goblets to the table: red wine, white wine, champagne flutes, and margarita glasses. It doesn’t matter to Alice if someone tells her those are hard to drink from.
She is up to the challenge.
