Night Sky Gazing - A New Christmas Tradition?

I have many memories of Arta pulling out her "Night Skies" book at the lake and using it to coach us in the art of star gazing.

We have been trying to find ways to make December special in new says this year -- ways that don't involve visiting with friends and family.

Today I came across this article in the news and thought it would be a perfect activity.

The Geminids is an annual meteor shower that runs from December 4 to 17 as Earth moves through debris left from asteroid 3200 Phaethon. It peaks on the night of December 13–14.

The Geminids can produce upward of 150 meteors an hour under ideal conditions, meaning cloud-free and in a dark-sky location. And even better, they tend to be bright and can sometimes produce colourful fireballs.

This link will take you to a really cool interactive map of the shower:
