The Lost Slug
At the Bates home, Kalina and Teresa went for a walk in the forest.
They were out gathering pets.
They brought home 8 slugs which they put in a box on the main floor.
The next morning there were no slugs in the box.
Slugs aren’t that hard to find. They leave a trail of slime as they make their way anywhere. They found seven out of eight slugs. That didn’t make their grandmother all that happy. Moving furniture, began as a solution to the problem of “where is that last slug”. Zoe found the it under the couch. A happy ending.
Forty Snails
At the Dan and Marina Wood house, Oscar Wood went into the forest with a bucket.
He brought home 40 snails.
Moiya made him take the bucket far into the woods and release the snails. She doesn’t want snails hatching by her house all summer.
Six Chickens
At the Richard and Miranda Johnson’s chicken coop, the birds are often let out to forage in the grass and the trees.
They travel to the little copse of trees between Miranda's cabin and my house. They don't seem to need to be herded. In fact, they don't respond to herding.
In my mind there is always the question, which is better, cultivated pets or one brought home from the woods.
