Road Trip - Kananaskis Style

From Marcia:

We are enjoying our room at the Kananaskis Lodge. 

The boys are busy with rehearsal today and the show is tomorrow at 7. 
Gabe has another part, he is that chef making soup. 
The more parts the better for him. 
For Zack, the less parts the better.

Their pool is being renovated so no swimming.

They have some games for kids. 

Who loves babies?

"Richard?  Could I carry her around for a while?"

When the 5 second cousins were at MacDonalds I watched Audra with Theresa. 

She sat with her shoulder to shoulder, and then Audra had her arm right around Theresa's back, chatting with her and entertaining her while they were eating.

 Theresa is not able to do two things at once, and so no food goes into her at an event like this, but she is royally entertained.

"Here is a toy.  Want to come to me now?"

When we got back to our next venue, the Johnson's playground, Theresa was on her own and Audra picked up with Betty, serving her french fries, one with each hand, carrying her around on her hip, and slowly getting in Betty's good graces so that she would go to Audra. 

Quite cute, that girl, Audra.

Welcome to the Swamp

 ... presented by students at Captain Nichola Goddard School ...

Captain Nichola Goddard School Musical Theatre Club presented Shrek: The Musical. 

This is the school attended by Gabe and Zack Treleaven.

Gabe was Donkey in the musical.

Zack was Gingy.

The Treleaven boys hadn’t started out with those parts, but by the time it was in full production, Zach had taken over Gabe’s part as the Gingerbread Boy, and Gabe, instead of being the understudy for Shrek, took on Donkey’s part.

The whole school seemed to be involved.

Lighting, in-house ushering, ticket takers, 50 people with named parts (Mad Hater, Tweedle, Pet Pan, Mama Orge, Dragon, Fairy Godmother, etc.)

Hundreds in the final production, I guess.

Donkey’s solo is “Don’t Let me Go” and he is part of a quartet and then a trio at the end of the first age that was a class act by all of the performers.

Marcia had the tickets for us. I have a V.I.P seat on the front row and a ticket stub that let me into the V.I.P. Lounge where I had baklava during the intermission.

“Could you let me in to find my daughter,” Wyona said to the usher at the door before the school theatre doors opened.

“I need to speak to her.

She has my tickets.

She is Donkey’s Mother.” The lady behind us in the line-up laughed on hearing that.

Who knows how parents will finally be identified when they start having kids in middle and high school.

In conversation with Mary about this musical,
she said that it holds one of her favorite Broadway songs: When Words Fail.

Zack gets the play's last line.
"God bless us, everyone."

In the past, I have seen Shrek twice.

This was my third hearing and tonight I fell in love with the song,  “Morning Person”.

Nothing like lyrics that say “I’ve always been a morning person / a morning girl / Hurray."

The last performance is the Saturday matinee.

Wyona told me that it is sold out already.

Summer Memories

... give said the little stream ...

I have a view from the balcony that overlooks the stream going through a culvert.

On occasion the Bates family take a walk.

 Not all of them.

But many will stroll down to the lake on a Sunday afternoon. I can watch through the glass panels to see how people are doing

.

Do lilies smell?

It is hard not to stop and smell the lillies.

They are prolific, colourful, tall and grow just across from the pig roast cinder blocks as the road levels out.

On a walk this is the spot to slow down and check out the surroundings: -- the old burn pile or the long set of stairs going up to the cabin

... always wanted to check on the girl in a fountain ...

Those who check out the girl in the fountain only have to look a few feet beyond her to see some skunk cabbage plants of enormous proportions.

The people from the Bates house come down that road in a long string -- various groups of small cousins, women pushing baby strollers, teen-agers jostling each other's shoulders and calling out to their friends.
