Our Mini Earthquake

From Bonnie in Salmon Arm

Salmon Arm experienced a minor earthquake on the weekend.  It was so short lived that we didn't even have time to "duck and cover". It felt like something hit our home. If I'd been counting, I'd say it lasted less than 2 seconds.

My guess was a tree hit our roof. Joaquim's guess was that something fell in the basement. A neighbor thought a car had ran into their garage. Other hypotheses included a sonic boom (from a plane) or a comet/meteor strike. One thing we all had in common was our imagination. When something unfamiliar and unexpected happens, our brains work hard to make sense of it. To my surprise, David simply shrugged, and wanted to continue watching the Three Muskateers on Netflix.

David is the only one in our home that has done an earthquake drill. Annually at school they get to practice ducking under their desks. He is getting so tall - it must be getting harder to fit there. He measured 5'7 the other day.

Around our evening table

Image from Basha Foods International
Last night Joaquim asked me if I have ever made a list of the number of countries that I have cooked recipes from.  That made me laugh.  I don't think I am going to make such a list.

When I arrived here in Salmon Arm I was still practising Arabic bread.  I don't know if I have it right yet.  But what we are eating tastes good.

We were eating a Thai Red Curry Chicken tonight.  I have been wanting to make this since Miranda came over one day asking if I had any red curry paste.

Having none, it went on my grocery list but I couldn't find it until I stopped one day at Basha Foods International.

Now the curry paste as drifted out here to B.C. with me still wanting to use that paste.  And that is how we got to the Red Curry Chicken Thai dish.

Tonight we had a Chicken Broccoli Stir Fry.  I have been doing that dish with its variations for so many years that it seems to be a Canadian dish to me. One more meal at home and then we are taking off for Victoria where I am hoping to taste the food of many cultures across the Pacific.

Joaquim asked me what would be Canadian food if I were to make it.  Putting maple syrup on pancakes seems like one choice.  I couldn't think of a third, but my second choice would be serving the deer sausage that I can get from Miranda and Richard's freezer.

Yum.

Greetings from Salmon Arm

From Bonnie

Things are busy and wonderful here in Salmon Arm.

Marla, David, and I had lunch at the Blue Canoe on Diabetes awareness day. David had learned about it at school and had reminded me to wear blue.

Noella and Marla had a cookie making day and then gifts were dropped at the doors of friends on the First of December.

Noella and I both like drawing, so we have a club that is just the two of us.

We are starting to work our way through Revere's Big Project Book for Bold Engineers in our free time.

Thanks to Richard, Miranda, Michael, Alice, and Betty for introducing me to Rosie Revere, Engineer - the children's story book.
