Assignment #3: Making videos and listening to Doral Pilling's voice

One of the summer's highlights has been taking a Video Editing Course.  Six weeks  to learn all about working with Adobe Premiere Pro.  It turned out to be harder than I expected, but also very interesting.

The third assignment was to create a 3 minute video making use of interview footage.  I decided to make it meaningful for me, taking up some of the questions emerging in my business associations class about the way that stories of 'family' and 'business' intersect.

I knew that I had footage from several years back where Arta had talked with me about my grandfather Doral Pilling's business experience, and I also knew that I had audio files of Doral reading from his own autobiography.  Below is a link to the 3 minute video I put together for the class, using both Arta's and Doral's voices!

AN ASIDE:

It was such a treat to spend time listening to Doral's voice on the audio files as I was putting this video together.   How did I get those audio files, you ask?   Well, here is a link to a post back in 2014 where I first reported on getting access to those files:

I thought others might also want to access the files.   So.... here are links you an follow to listen to Doral reading from his memoire in his own voice.   I have tried to indicate roughly how the audio files relate to the print copy of granddad's memoire that I think most families have a copy of.  It is not a perfect match.  That is, sometimes the audio and text version diverge.   But it it pretty close.

I hope you enjoy listening to granddad's voice as much as I did.

  1. It would be great to listen to the piece that represents the missing pages in the oral history book to figure out if there was text deleted or an error in the pagination. Thanks for posting this!!!
