Catherine said that Hebe attended a party where colourful Easter plastic eggs were hidden in the grass. Children gather them and in the process get to eat the treats inside. Catherine promised that I would be a popular person if I tried this with Michael, Betty and Alice. Yesterday, I bought pastel glow-in-the dark Easter egg containers and filled them with 2 candy eggs each.
Catherine was right.
The event was successful in the mid-afternoon and I collected the empty containers, telling Betty and Alice that we would do it again today for Michael to search out when he got home from school.
The three of us spent part of the afternoon filling the containers again, and we also ate some of the eggs while we were getting the containers packed. Some people ate quite a few.
Then we went out to hide them in plain sight. That was my only rule. Betty thinks plain sight is underneath buckets or inside the BBQ, but all of that got worked out as I explained again, plain sight.
As the afternoon wore on (that means about 10 minutes after we were through hiding them again) the girls got hungry and went around and ate just one out of every egg. A little later they were hungry again, so they found the eggs once more and ate the other egg. I promised them that we could fill the containers up again and get ready for Michael to come home.
When he arrived in the front door of the house, Betty was scooting him out the back door; her joy could not be contained at the thought of the fun ahead.
Betty was out of her mind with happiness, leading Michael to every one.
Alice tried to play interference between Michael and the eggs to be found. Finally Alice gave Betty a good yank to stop her from leading Michael to every egg that had been hidden.
Betty fell to her knees weeping uncontrollably.
The last thing I did tonight is go outside and gather the plastic containers up again. I am still trying to be a popular person.
Alice was concerned at suppertime. She had counted and we only have 8 of the original 12 containers now. I will change the kind of candy inside and find new hiding places in the yard for the kids. Perhaps the other four containers will show up in tomorrow’s search.
