Here's Dalton and Meighan at their skating lessons today.Dalton has his skating lession first.
Then the Zamboni comes out to clear the ice, and afterwards Meighan has her skating lesson.
Dalton is learning how to spin, jump and change direction, and and use his edges.
He's finding it to be quite challenging.
Meighan is in her first class, and is still wary of actually letting herself slide on her skates.She likes to walk stiff-legged so she can control her skates on the ice.
She'll eventually get more comfortable with allowing herself to actually skate!
Skating was my all time favorite winter activity. There was a skating rink and a hut, complete with a wood stove, a couple of blocks away from my house. As well, I could walk down to the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Centre where I took skating lessons.
ReplyDeleteEvery Christmas I asked Santa for new skates, for the old ones had grown too small.
I spent many hours polishing those skates, making sure the skate guards were in good condition, and getting them sharpened.
Skating in the Ice Capades was a childhood dream. One yet to be fulfilled.

Is there a cousin out there who would like a pair of boys size 12 skates? David is growing so fast and has outgrown his skates. David has finished his skating lessons for this year. He was last working on "hopping" on ice.
ReplyDeleteThere is still lots of ice in our area. Some at the icerink but even more at "The Lake". The roads at "Pillings Larch Haven" are so slippery that David would more easily have skated over to the other houses on the property than walked there.
After getting our car stuck at Glen and Janet's house, we walked back to where we have a pile of dirt for the road and then did our best to sand most of the road. David loved the job and was really sad when we had to leave the part between the Pillings and the Bates homes unsanded. He was very determined to get the whole road safe for the travels of Lanie and Graham's new baby, baby Landen.
