A Boiling Water Chocolate Cake Recipe

Al Flemming's mother gave me a recipe 40 years ago -- one that creams butter and sugar and then adds two cups of boiling water. Out comes a beautiful, moist chocolate cake. I finally lost that recipe.

Mary has been making a similar cake with regularity, taking it to work to celebrate colleagues' birthdays, leaving some home for us to enjoy, and again making one in less than five minutes when she needed a quick snack. Oh the cake still took 25 minutes to bake, but I have never seen anyone go start from scratch and end up with a cake in the oven in 5 minutes before.

That cake is the Mary let Rhiannon decorate.  Then she let her have the first piece.  I have never seen a 2 1/2 year old get a whole piece of cake onto her fork with one poke and then raise it to her lips.

When she sees a camera she usually says "cheese".

In this picture she said, "Yum."

Chomp.
