The Happiness Project

Thanks Bonnie and Arta for putting me on to this.

http://www.happiness-project.com/

Today, my first day at work for 2013, I have printed the following and pinned it up in my lovely cubicle at work.  I hope to find out for myself this year which of these hold true for me.  I can already say that even though i just read it 20 minutes ago, number 3 speaks to me.

The Eight Splendid Truths of Happiness

First Splendid Truth

To be happier, you have to think about feeling good, feeling bad, and feeling right, in an atmosphere of growth.

Second Splendid Truth

One of the best ways to make yourself happy is to make other people happy;
One of the best ways to make other people happy is to be happy yourself.

Third Splendid Truth

The days are long, but the years are short.

Fourth Splendid Truth

You’re not happy unless you think you’re happy.

Fifth Splendid Truth

I can build a happy life only on the foundation of my own nature.

Sixth Splendid Truth

The only person I can change is myself.

Seventh Splendid Truth

Happy people make people happy, but
I can’t make someone be happy, and
No one else can make me happy.

Eighth Splendid Truth

Now is now.

  1. Hi Mary,

You are ahead of us. We have been waiting for the library to call and tell us that the book is in. We did slip out and look at a 13 minute clip of the author giving a talk on u-tube which was a lot of fun. She was working over the glass half empty and half full metaphor, saying that it is both. So Bonnie and I picked up on that, playing with the idea of two horns of a dilemma being conjoined and not separated. At least we have had that fun. Now I am going to take my morning medication -- my first step of the day toward thinking about feeling good!
