Cruise and Dash

Post by Arta

Bonnie Johnson and Zoe Bates
Zoe Bates and I are separated by 3 other dwellings during the summer.

That means we can make quick trips between her place and mine. stays for the summer.

She travels from one cabin to anther and has even been known to drop in on the Robertson’s.  That is just Zoe.  When Zoe walks down the road as far as my house, I usually have her call Wyona to check if she has told her she is out walking the land.

Really photo bombing the pottery wheel.

My story involved Zoe’s travels between the two houses that own cats.  First of all, Moiya purchased a mouser-cat.  Many people have seen Cruise catching mice and eating them.  though the cat sleeps at night in her garage.  Moiya named her kitten, Cruise, because it sleeps on an old Royal Caribbean Cruise bag that was on the floor in her garage, a bag that one might put their grocery packages in.

... Dash lives in a cabin with this cute family ...

Miranda’s cabin is two doors away from Moiya.

Miranda has an indoor cat, named Dash, probably named that because when it gets out it runs away.

Dash should be the names given to the children at that house, because they are afraid for that cat and run after Dash at great speed if he manages to squeeze between the opening of the door and someone’s legs as they enter the house

Now to get to the story of the two cats meeting, Bonnie was at Miranda’s cabin and she saw Zoe holding Cruise and trying to get him to tip down below the window. He was backing up over her shoulder.

I know this cat.  It comes to my house
circling the porch, mewing at every window
hoping some child will come out to play.
Totally annoying.

Bonnie went outside to say hello. The door to the cabin was open, and Dash - the indoor cat - was in the garden below the window. Bonnie gathered up Dash, put her back into the cabin, and went back to talk with Zoe.

She said, "Did you bring Cruise over to play with Dash?"

Zoe nodded.

"How did it go?", Bonnie asked.

Zoe put Cruise down.  Zoe pulled her elbows to her sides, holding her hands up near her chin, like a cat might curl its paws.

Zoe opened her eyes wide.

Zoe made a hissing sound at the back of her throat, a sound that travelled through barred teeth, the sound that might happen between two cats who are preparing to fight.

Zoe and Bonnie then both shrugged.

Play dates can be hard to set up.

  1. I love this story so much. And I love making the sound of the meeting of the cats. Zoe was PERFECT in her vocal capture!

  2. Zoe has gone back to Calgary. Juar before she left she said, "I am going to miss Dash. I am going to miss Dash."

Wyona said to her, "Greg is staying behind. He will be at the late. Aren't you going to miss him?" Zoe just continued, "I am going to miss Dash. I am going to miss Dash."

Question. How hard to you think Wyona laughed?
