Our Halloween Night

... tools for carving pumpkins ...
The best day ever.

That is Halloween.

Hebe wanted to go as Coconut Cutie and Catherine did her best to make that happen.

The half-coconuts that were strapped to her chest made me laugh.

They had to be repaired the night before, one of them having a huge chip out of it.

And the twine that held them together had to be tightened up.

When Halloween evening was upon us, of course Hebe’s costume had to go over her winter jacket.

So the double-barrelled coconuts had to be expanded to fit over the coat. Oh, that girl looked good with pink flowers on her hair band and that little green skirt swishing in the wind.

For the past few days, on the way to school, Hebe has been trying to make good guesses about which houses would be welcoming the Halloweeners.

The house with the guillotine looked like they might be amenable to giving out candy.

The CBC came to take a picture of the home that had a cauldron with a 3 foot diameter bubbling and serving eye-balls.

A huge 8 foot clawed man welcomed people to walk up the flight of iron stairs to someone who was giving out candy at its top.

The day had gone right for Hebe.

She won the jar of jellybeans at school by guessing the correct number.

One hundred and sixty-nine.

Who has ever had that happen? And how did she come up with that number?

I asked her if they were just orange and black, but no, the jelly beans covered the whole spectrum of the rainbow.

None of the five adults who live here are allowed to get into Hebe’s bag of candy.

And Catherine didn't have time to go stock up on the 1/2 price stuff today.

Bummer.
