Rescue

Yesterday I called Glen and he said he was working at home, since his hip is in a splint.

Lately (in the past 1/2 year) he has had two falls -- one at the ski lift and one where he hit a tree and his hip was dislocated.  He has been busy doing physio to strengthen the muscles that hold the joint in place.

At any rate,  he heard that some trees were down  on the Sicamous switch back up in Larch Hills where he stewards trails, so David Pilling and Glen rode up on their mountain bikes to take care of that.  As he was bicycling, his hip dropped out of place again.  Just simply biking.

Glen said Search and Rescue came to help, after David Pilling called 911.  I asked Glen, what Search and Rescue does?

Come in with an all terrain vehicle?

Bring in a helicopter?

This is what he said happens:

"Eleven volunteers hike up with a rescue basket stretcher. They lift you in. strap you down. Put a wheel right in the middle.
Lock it down.
rescue basket stretcher wheel
Then they tie a belay rope on to use on the steep spots.
Three people a side roll it down the single track and jostle you a bit because you took them away from dinner. They get you to the bottom and hand you over to paramedics who practice putting an IV in you for sport and you go to Vernon where they give you shit and morphine."
I think that is the most interesting thing I am going to read today.

  2. Yes to your comment, Bonnie. I find it overwhelming, so many people taking care of the forest and the lovers of the forests.
