Memorable Bithdays

The beauty of her marzipan covered cake is burned in my brain.

December 6th

Zoe's birthday

6:00 p.m.

She might be having her birthday dinner.

Visions of her 1984 birthday cake come to my mind.

I wonder how she is celebrating this year.

Will she be putting out her shoes for St. Nicholas to fill?

What is on her "wish list" for how to celebrate?

Choices ... choices ...
David and I are at Marla's home.

She has invited us over for eating pizza and baking cupcakes.

In the end, she did all the baking, I played with Noella, and David did some paper/pencil work.

The Bjorgans know David well. He has had five birthdays since living in Canada. He had had many dinners at their home. He has learned much about gaming from his good friend Erik.

In the summer time he had decided he would be having a Minecraft party.

Those plans had to shift when I realized the diligence and manpower it takes to maintain his server.

The Bjorgan's decided to make sure some Minecraft-like celebrations could still happen. They gave him a "birthday coupon".

"Glad I got my bangs cut. I can see what I am circling."
So, it's Friday night.

David puts his head down and quickly begins circling options on this birthday coupon.

He has many options to look through.

No limits on how many options can be circled.

Carefully but quickly, choices are made.

Minecraft,

Halo2,

drawing,

NERF battle,

Kerbal Space Program,

specify ____________________

To my surprise he chooses a sleep over.

No surprise, cucumbers and dictee (spelling test) go uncircled.

He is instructed that if you circle "other" you have to fill in the blank to specify the choice.

His creative solution? Writing "any video" in the first blank.

Great to have friends who give you options.

  1. I went over to see Zoe on Thursday but her whole family was gone (the whole family being Charise, Wyona, Greg and Zoe). Off to the theatre to watch _Frozen_. That is what Zoe wanted to do for her birthday. She also wanted to squeeze in, dining out. So they went out to eat afterwards at the Dairy Queen.

"Boy it is cold in here," said Wyona after ordering the food.

"Yes. We have been without heat for two days. I would recommend that instead of eating in, you take your food and eat it in the warmth of your own home," the restaurant owner said.

    So they did.
