First Sail of the Season -- highs and lows

So, once Leo had the boat ready to go, he asked Xavier to join him to stear while Leo controlled the sails.  Off they went.  Of course, once they made it out into the middle of the lake the rudder handle broke.  They managed to make their way back to the shore with difficulty, but landed down by the Rogers (there were many stressful moments). Out of the boat they hopped and towed the boat along the beach back to the doc.

Leo was determined to get that boat sailing.  So a trip to Sicamous was in order -- buy some dowel to fix the rudder handle, pick up some new hardware and rope to get the rigging working better (I don't even know if I'm using the right terminology -- I don't sail). And the boat was ready for another run a couple of days later.  Of course, the wind didn't want to cooperate too much.  Leo and I went out for a test run.  Then back to the dock to pick up our first set of passengers: Michael and Teresa.  A slow and peaceful little sail.  Back to the dock to pick up Alice and Calina. This time Rhiannon was at the rudder.  Betty was sad to be left behind, but we promised she'd be on the next ride (always a bad thing to do -- make a promise when you can't control the wind). By now, the wind was really dying down.  And poor Betty, she never did get out on the boat.
Photos of someone out on a boat are generally so peaceful.  They never capture the entire situation.

We hope to be back a the lake mid-August.  Leo will try to get the boat out again and then put it away for the season.  Poor Betty will already be back in Calgary.  I guess she will get the first ride summer 2021.
