I just went to the site and read what has been transcribed. I was on the verge of tears the entire time. Thank goodness I did not listen to the podcast. Hearing those words in Catherine's voice would have totally made me lose it. Thank you for sharing your story in this way Cathy and for being so honest, vulnerable, accepting and encouraging. I learned new things about you. I have loved that we have grown together over the years as mothers, sisters and friends.

DeleteA few months ago I asked Catherine to write something for our ward newsletter -- something about her educational journey and how Lorraine Wright and Wendy Watson had been influential role models there. Catherine had already done this audio interview, so she told me to just wait until it came out. I think the interview is a goldmine of tips for how to live in an increasingly complicated world. I love it when Catherine advocates for women getting careers, not just work. Or how about her metaphor of trying to find life balance on an exercise ball, and explaining to women, it is OK to always be a bit off balance, once finding balance. That is just going to happen she says. Balance, then off-balance. A person doesn't have to be young to have Catherine's words resonate with their lived experience right now.
ReplyDeleteMaybe in a few months you will be able to listen to the inflection in her voice as she talks. I was recently listening to a tape of my dad's voice, and I know what you mean by saying that hearing her voice might make you lose it. My heart was pounding so much when I was listening to Doral. I finally had to put him on pause.
It’s nice to to read something about you. Facebook says that you are living in Texas. We certainly remember the Edmonton days & taking our young children out to your place on the Sushwap. Sharon & I are just growing older. With this COVID 19 it’s like having a holiday leave from our temple assignment & a short term mission to digitize all the books & records in the Cardston Family History Center. We have 6 children 3 in Arizona, 2 in Cardston & our youngest in Edmonton. Hope you are doing well❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦

ReplyDeleteThanks for your email. I will write. I try to fix that error on Facebook, and all I do is make new errors. I am glad to hear a couple of your children are close and that one is in Edmonton, which is not too far away. I guess the ones in Arizona give you a good chance to be snowbirds in the winter. Thanks for sending me a couple of waving Canadian flags. Two is not too many. As you can see from the blog, my niblings (neices and nephews), my siblings, my children and I all take a fling at writing about what we are seeing, which is still a lot even through COVID. Thanks for checking in and now I will message you by email. AJ
