Shingles Shot #2

The Kids and Me at HomeI've never really tried to play Lego before.
Sitting and sorting was my best try.
Miranda drove Betty and me to a skin doctor's appointment.

I was thinking a few days ago that when a person gets older, they should start keeping track of how many kinds of Dr.s they have.

If I were to make such a list I would surely add the fellow who followed me after my hip was replaced.

A hospitalist, I think he called himself.

Someone who watches patients from when they get out of the operating room until they leave the hospital. Now that is a pretty discrete specialist. At any rate, when I was finished with the skin specialist, Betty, Miranda and I stopped off at London Drugs to get a prescription filled for me.

People who like to play Lego
can play it fast.
There is a 20 minute lag from when I drop off the prescription, to when it is available for pick-up so I asked Syed Ashid, our local London Drugs pharmacist, if he had time to give me my second shingles shot. Yes, he was available in 10 minutes. Betty came into the office to watch me get the shot. I told her that there would be no shot for her, and that she could watch me have a shot – I wouldn’t even flinch.

The pharmacist asked me how the first shot went and when I told him a sore arm and quite a bit of lethargy – as well as feeling as though I had been hit by a truck.  He told me good to know. Usually the second of the shots has side effects just a little worse than the first one.  I may not have wanted to hear that, but it was too late.

Still, I had decided not to flinch. The pharmacist invited Betty to come in really close and take a good look, since we had asked if she could look. She thought that was a good idea for about 2 seconds and then as he began to find a good place to do the shot her feet began to inch backward.

I guess there is always the fear that the shot can reverberate right out to where an onlooker is watching. Anyway – that job is done for me and my insurance pays 80% so there was no need for me to flinch.
