A picture from the past
Many years ago I joined a list called Mormon-L. There was a spin off of posters from that list to ELWC-L. Some of the women on the second list met at a Sunstone Conference. Here I am with them, at least two of them.
At a break we went out to talk to some of the smokers who lent the non-smokers a cigarette or two for this picture.
I will name the women. Only two of them were smokers. You will have to guess who had to lend cigarettes.
LtoR: Arlene White, Arta Johnson, Moiya Wood, Carlan Bradshaw, "I can't remember this woman's last name, first name is Stephanie, maybe", Wyona Bates
Just a little fun from the past.

hahaha... good one!
ReplyDeleteHello and thank you for your comment. I don't know who you are, since "Unknown" comes up. But I do want to say more about that pic. It was taken bake in the 1990's at a time when Mormons didn't have the same access to speak with each other as they do now. For the first time, Mormons were talking out on the internet on listservs and it was thrilling to get together and talk with "big tent" Mormons, the ones who go to church and the ones who don't and even the ones who had resigned their memberships. All of us together talking. And some out holding cigarettes though they choose not to smoke them. That even made me laugh while writing this. Arlene Burston White who is on the left of the pic and Carlan whom I have identified are still my friends. I am in contact with them at the very least monthly and often weekly, and sometimes for stretches, daily. Good to have friends from everywhere in Mormonism. At least it is good for me.
ReplyDeleteDear Arlene, I'm told you have gone to the hereafter. I wouldn't have had the courage to write to you before hearing that news, but now I really wanna talk to you. I did a web search on your name, and to my surprise the "first hit" was here - on my mother's blog. Thus, it is here I post my letter to you.
ReplyDeleteAre you just gone? Ashes to ashes dust to dust. That is all there is?
Because, if I get any input on the matter, I chose for you to still exist. I offer you the choice of hanging out with the being I formerly referenced as "mother in heaven." Can you just get together with her, and few others of your choosing, and let me listen in. And no, the others of your choosing cannot include Margaret, or Carlin, or Arta, or any of the other women from that group without a name who have not yet shuffled off this mortal coil.
Would you mind talking with them about quarantining, or about love, or about anything, really. I'm just stalling saying goodbye to you. If I close my eyes and listen in to your conversation, I think I'll be able to relax and be at peace that you ladies have our backs down here and everything is gonna be alright.
Ohlaughing, wouldn't you be depressed if you thought that nobody wanted to think about you or talk to you or talk ABOUT you any more, just because you are dead? Arlene would HATE being ignored. But I don't think she'd be very nice to mother in heaven. She would be hostile and tell her to go away.
ReplyDeleteI didn't join the group until after this sunstone picture was taken and you were all smoking. Hahaha, but it wasn't long before they adopted me in and soon she and Carlan came visiting, oh and that character Wyona! Dont say goodbye Bonnie, say hello
