What is going on in the lake?

Dr. Amir and Connor Pilling went fishing last night.

The fish was 20 inches long. A lovely rainbow trout.

It was long enough to keep, but Connor thought it would enjoy a few more years of swimming in the lake.

Amir also reported flashes of lightening and an amazing rush of warm wind before some a little rain fell.

The lightening and the wind weren't captured in this picture.

  1. That's a beautiful fish. This is the one that went back into the lake?

  2. Now i am thinking of the story of the trout children! :-) or of the grandfather that recognized his grandson's eye in a salmon.

  3. Michael, Betty and I have only been focusing on the story of Hu'upken, the lazy, mischievous, irresponsible boy left behind by his kin. Crow and Raven did leave him some food, which makes me think of the three crows high on a tree, watching Bonnie and me as we swam tonight. There through the threes, three crows on a bare limb, watching over us.

  4. And yes, to Doral's question. This is the fish the entered the waters of the Shuswap again. Tonight no fishing for Connor. Instead he stayed at the beach and showed Michael how to make a boat that propels itself with sap. He pointed out an excellent tree that will give up its sap, not the dark green kind, but the light clear sap that makes excellent boat fuel.

  5. I don't know the story of the grandfather who recognizes his grandson's eye in the salmon. Do you have a reference for that? I don't think it is in the _Secwepemc Lands and Resources_ book, since I have read all of those to Michael and Alice, more than once.
