Arta reports from the hospital (with video!)

If you had been to visit Arta today, then you would have been party to the following conversation about doctors, arm-patches and gold stars.

Well, more to the point, Arta asked me to write some different notes to people.

I told her that I did not feel like doing that (my fingers were too tired!), and that she should tell them those things herself.  And there is, afterall, the magic that is zoom!

So, she agreed to a zoom session to record the daily health update to family herself, rather than having Mary or I doing it at night.

After we finished it, she said, "Oh, just go put that up on the blog!  It is a bit long, but maybe someone will want to watch it."

So here it is!

Arta Reports - April 20 2021

She watched it herself first, then noted that it was about as good as visit as you would have had if you came to the hospital today.  This video captures, she says, about all the energy she had for the day.  And pretty good energy it was!

Here is a closeup photo of her arm, very well labeled with all of her drug access ports.

If anyone wants to take her on in an arm-wrestle, today is the day to challenge her!

  1. I love studying your eyes, your hands, your skin, your hair, your facial expression. You are so beautiful. That is not to say I love your beauty over your brains.

Today Betty told me she is so lucky to have four grandmothers: Grandmother Arta, Grandma Joan, Gramma Mary, and Gramma Bonnie.

My reply was, yes, you are so lucky. I had to ask what makes someone a grandma. She listed wrinkly hands and old. I nodded and smiled.

At some level I think she realized some revisions to her theory were in order. Sh offered to share a really interesting piece of information with me, said with the tone of someone dying to share a "spoiler alert" tidbit. She went on. Grandma Joan is my mom's mom. Grandmother Arta is my dad's mom.

Our conversation was had over lemonade from matching crystal glass out of your china cabinet at the lake, Arta. I almost poured a ceremonial glass for you to have sitting there next to ours, since I was hearing Betty's thoughts for the both of us.

  2. Wow! That is quite the arm. I don't think you could sleep on that arm.

  3. That was so fun to watch and listen to your report Arta. I am still waiting for you to phone me at 3 a.m. when you wake up. Congratulations of the potassium bananas. I had a Dr. tell me once that the best way to kill someone is to give them a potassium shot between their toes. Strange! Next, your port holes for meds are gross. And porridge is YUCK! And how sweet you are getting gold stars. If it makes you feel better I will send you 100 gold stars in the mail. Great report. Do it again.

  4. I wish I had read Wyona's comment 2 hours ago whe arta woke up at 3am. Instead I made the mistake of warming up some soup for her and reading her an e-mail from her friend Lorraine Wright -- sudenly her brain was on fire and she was writing poetry. I tried to convince her to go back to bed, but since she wouldn't, I layed down in her bed and ignored her. I am a terrible daughter. Next time I will just have her call you.

  5. I guess I need to be around Betty more if I want to be called a grandmother.

  9. As I sit here with my Mother ( she is in town for Reagan and Lauren getting married ) we enjoyed seeing Arta visiting and in such better spirits and comfort. I hope it continues that way for you ! Cheers !

  10. I was so happy to watch your Zoom update. It sure sounds like there is a lot going on and that your doctor is keeping a very close eye on how you are doing. It's amazing to realize how medicine has advanced in ways we wouldn't have ever dreamed of! Too bad so much of it involves being pricked by needles but what a blessing that those resources are available and safe. I'm glad you are feeling more comfortable and pray that continues. I look forward to Future Zoom updates!!
